Here is the history bit:
The manufacturer of this medal was Vaughton & Sons, a famous Jewellery manufacturing company from Birmingham founded in 1819 by Phillip Vaughton. Howard Vaughton, the grandson of Phillip Vaughton played for Aston Villa between 1881 and 1887 scoring 10 goals in 30 appearances. Howard was part of the team that won Aston Villa's first FA Cup in 1887. During his playing career he achieved 5 caps for England, scoring 6 goals in total. 5 of those goals were scored in one game against Ireland in Belfast in 1882 as England won 13-0. This today is still the joint record for the most goals scored in a single game by one player, sharing this with 3 others players that include the great Malcolm McDonald. As a side note, Howard was also a British Ice Skating champion and played cricket at county level.
With a rich sporting history and the fact that Aston Villa had just won the FA Cup, Vaughton's were commissioned to manufacture a replica FA Cup to replace the original Cup that went missing in 1895, and was used by the Football Association until 1910.
Vaughton's were also tasked to produce the medals for the 1908 Olympic games that were held in London. Still going strong today, they still have a connection with modern football as the company produce the medals for the English Football League, aswell as a partnership with Aston Martin to manufacture their cars badges. Quite a history and one I think is worth celebrating.
This medal was awarded by the Staffordshire Football Association in 1914 to Sam Baddeley who was a player for Stoke FC, who won the Staffordshire Senior Cup the 1913-14 season. One of 3 local brothers who all played the game. Sam also played for Burslem Port Vale.
The total chain length is 16" plus a centre drop of 2".
Comes supplied in a Hollins & Hollinshead presentation box.
Please note we can split the chain from the medal if required. contact us for a split price.
